Hi, I’m Jo Long a light-hearted Mum/Blogger on my ‘Learning to Love Autism and ADHD’ journey with my son ‘Bookasaurus’.
Bookasaurus is Autistic with ADHD and sensory processing challenges and I want to share my learning journey with you to better understand and accept his differences. He is a bright, happy little boy and says the quirkiest things. As a family, we have learned to be more compassionate with him and are constantly on a journey to adapt our behaviour to his strengths. I help other parents/carers with to see things in a more positive light and with practical tips to make life easier and more enjoyable.
As you will have noticed my blog is called ‘Learning to Love Autism’ as I really wanted to celebrate the positive strengths of autistic children. I connect with and support other Mums with similar challenges. It can sometimes feel isolating but you’re not on your own and you deserve recognition for the daily challenges you face with your children.
My passion is supporting other mums of autistic children to grow, to bring you a calmer more rounded life for the long term. I offer a professional and 1:1 personal service, to work with you side by side for the long haul so that you and your family can flourish. I work with you step-by-step on your mindset and when this starts to change you will feel more calm, positive, look forward and find your own creative solutions to make parenting your child that little bit easier. I also help you find some time for what’s important to you and what you want out of life.
I have a Community Development and Equality and Diversity background working with lots of different people to make positive things happen for communities and to ensure they’re treated fairly. I’ve also coached individuals as a manager to help with their development. I have a degree in Law and a Management Diploma.
My son and I have worked with a Children’s Occupational Therapist (Health Therapist who works with children who find daily activities including handwriting, getting dressed, toileting, and playing with their friends difficult) so I’ve picked up lots of tips! I also volunteer with a local Autism Charity and have trained with them as a Family Support Worker. As I travel on my journey, I would like to help raise awareness of what Autism is, how it affects people, and help children and families receive better support.
I hope you enjoy my blog and feel welcome to get in touch through my Comments section, e-mail me at jo.learningtoloveautism.com or drop me a line using the form on my Contact page. It’s not easy being parents of children with extra challenges but together we can ‘Learn to Love Autism’ and support our children and ourselves so that we all thrive together.
If you are interested in my 1:1 Coaching service then see my Support for Mums page and contact me for a free initial conversation.
